The Newman Experiment is a dynamic theatre-in-education programme for 9 - 11 year olds inspired by the story of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The programme examines tolerance and the respecting of difference when the boundaries and ethics of science have been pushed to the limits.

Language Alive! at ArtsFest

Come and see Language Alive! at the CBSO Centre at 1:30pm on Saturday 9th September, showcasing No Kidding, our programme for 5-7 year olds touring this term. This slapstick and participatory programme explores notions of friendship, co-operation and bullying through the eyes of a pair of ‘overgrown children’, Jazzy and Jilly.

Exhibition marks 20 years

Home Front

Language Alive! is being supported by the Big Lottery Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund through their Home Front Recall programme to tour The Home Front, a participatory theatre-in-education programme designed for pupils at key stage 2 (7-11 year olds) which explores the unique experiences of those who remained at home in Birmingham during World War II.

Toontoony Bird flies over Birmingham
Across Birmingham schools the mischievous Toontoony Bird has been telling tales of a Ruby Prince, a Dragon, a Princess that weighed only five flowers and of magical flying shoes. Inspired by tales from Pakistan. Toontoony’s Tales is a new Language Alive! storytelling programme for infants featuring visiting artist Ahsan Nadeem, a kathak dancer from Lahore.

The Emerald Cave in Ottowa
Iain Smith, our Artistic Director, will be sharing stories about the pioneering early years drama work of Language Alive! with a world wide audience. Invited to present at the IDEA (the International Drama in Education Association) Conference in Ottawa in July, Iain will feature the ‘Emerald Cave’ series of programmes run in Birmingham and Sandwell.
