Catalyst Theatre specialises in devising and performing Theatre in Education programmes that explore issues relating to personal, social and health education.
These programmes create dilemmas and raise questions about sensitive issues which concern children and young people and respond to the public health agenda. Since its formation in 1991 the company have devised work on themes such as:
• relationships and body image
• bullying
• sexual health and HIV and Aids
• smoking, drugs and alcohol education
• parenting
The work sets out to give participants a safe fictional space to:
• challenge attitudes and values
• practice skills – such as resisting
peer pressure
• gain accurate information
The aim of this work is to enable young people to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyles.
Catalyst also runs residencies, peer education and other bespoke arts projects.
