The Last Train
AUTUMN TERM ONLY
Social & Emotional Wellbeing, Problem solving, Belonging.
Age Group: 7-13 (KS2 and 3)
In 1938, 10 year old Inge escapes from Nazi Germany via the ‘Kindertransport’. In the present day, Imran is arriving in the UK as a refugee. The Last Train explores and links their stories, focusing in detail on Inge, and her journey to Birmingham and the experience of dealing with separation, the fate of her parents and negotiating the strangeness of her whole new world.
This is a complete re-working of a much-admired previous Play House programme, and is an ideal piece for inspiring creative writing, or any number of follow-up activities. It can also contribute directly to a school as a welcoming and supportive community.
Addresses the following areas of learning in the KS2 Curriculum:
-
History - Britain at War
-
SMSC Issues - Relationships and Tolerance
-
British Values - respecting difference, impacts of racism
Outcomes / Children will:
-
Learn vividly about an important historical event.
-
Experience the impact of war, of displacement and of antisemitism and other racism.
-
Be encouraged and empowered to analyse, and express responses to complex content.
BELONGING - the company is offering a specific follow-up programme, linking the visit of The Last Train to a school "belonging" strategy. The connection is drawn with the story - "How would we want people to feel, arriving at our school?" Please contact us for more details.
“This is what Theatre-in-Education should be. Powerful, engaging and important, it engaged the children completely, and they will remember it for ever”
