Injury Time - a S.T.E.A.M. project
FLEXIBLE - ALL TERMS
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths, PE
Age Group: 7-11 (KS2)
Built from a programme originally designed with The University of Birmingham, Injury Time puts the children in the role as newly appointed engineers, whose lab is visited by a nervous scientist, who needs their help. They have a video message from a Birmingham Football Star - she has an injury and needs the help of medical science.
Using STEM skills taught and developed within the workshop (including knowledge of forces such as tension and torsion) they work on the problem through hands-on activities that mirror a real life lab.
The children design, build and test a prototype device to help fix a broken bone. They help to save the career of the footballer, and help engineer Sam get their confidence back!
