Continuing Professional Development

The Play House has extensive experience of providing successful, dynamic professional development in participatory drama for teachers.

Our CPD supports teachers in practically acquiring and improving skills, knowledge and confidence in using drama as an exciting and effective learning medium.

We work with  teachers from EYFS to KS2, tailor-made and timed to your requirements, with either individual schools or consortia.

KEY STAGE: We tailor our training to different key stages across the primary age range and according to school’s interests and agendas.

TIMING: Over a day, half day or twilight sessions. We offer residencies where a member of the Play House Team works alongside teachers and their class over an extended period.

Play House CPD sessions demonstrate practically how teachers and education professionals can use particular drama and story techniques, including role-play, teacher in role, and improvisation to provide a context for deeper learning.

These strategies will:

  • Carry applications to aid learning across the curriculum.

  • Involve and challenge children with moral and ethical dilemmas.

  • Develop pupil’s problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Attendees will be provided with:

  • CPD resources, providing detailed storytelling and drama strategies with examples from across the curriculum.

  • Future planning support.

  • Practical classroom strategies.

  • Chance to plan - teachers plan a drama activity as part of the session.

“I think the drama course really had the finger on the pulse of the changes in approaches to learning that are happening. There was an excellent, practical use of drama as a cross curricular strategy and we had proper time for exploring and thinking.”
Reception teacher at Herefordshire Primary School

“I’m just writing to thank you for the excellent drama INSET that you did for us. You made it such fun that everyone really enjoyed themselves and they have loads of ideas to try out with the children.”
