The Play House [previously known as Language Alive] is now looking for a new Artistic Director, to take the company forward into its next phase. This is a unique opportunity to lead an organisation which has been creating drama and inspiring the young people of Birmingham and the Midlands for 40 years, and drive it into the next 40. It is a significant appointment for us, and for the schools of the city, and it needs the right person.
Do you understand and believe in the power of theatre-in-education? Are you committed to making drama that makes a real difference? Do you have the range of skills it will take to lead a small powerful creative team through the challenges of limited funding, of narrow curricula and unimaginative systems. Have you got a vision for how the Play House can be celebrating its 50th birthday?
The board is keen to appoint someone with energy and vision and a strong commitment to the area of work, to the city of Birmingham and to its young people.

The details
Salary: £42,000 per annum
37.5 hours per week, permanent contract
30 days annual leave plus bank and public holidays
Based at the Action for Children Centre, Ladywood, Birmingham.
Anticipated start: January 2027 (or by agreement)
