The Play House Casting Opportunity

PROJECT: Careless Talk - a participatory drama which explores how a young person could be groomed to take part in extremist action.

The piece is set in a fictional town and tells the story of 16 year old Scarlett, a member of a community called The Circle, who are being persecuted by another group. The children are guided through a process where they find positive and peaceful solutions for the characters in this piece which promotes social responsibility, tolerance and respect.


Careless Talk has a cast of two actor/facilitators and has been created for 1 class of primary aged children to participate in.

ROLE: Scarlett, 16, a member of a fictional community called The Circle.


If you are:

  • A female identifying actor of any ethnicity.

  • Identifying as disabled or non-disabled.

  • Based in the West Midlands.

  • Aged 18-25 with a playing age of 16.

We are looking for:

  • Strong performance skills

  • An interest in skills in facilitation and participation

  • Passionate about using theatre to giving young people a voice.

Auditions: Held online on 12th and 13th April.

Actors auditioning will be asked to prepare a 3-minute monologue from any source and will be sent an extract of script to prepare prior to audition.

Rehearsals: Weekdays 17th-20th, 24th-27th May and 1st-4th June 2021

In Birmingham or online depending on COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time.


Careless Talk is touring Birmingham primary schools on selected dates between 7th-29th June.


All rates of pay and working conditions adhere to ITC guidance.
